Pacquiao versus Clottey

The Pacquiao-Mayweather bout set on March 13 is not going to happen. Many boxing enthusiast have been waiting for the fight for quite some time. Everyone wants to know who is the real pound-for-pound boxer. Mayweather demanded that an Olympic-style blood-testing in the months, weeks, days and hours before and after the fight should be conducted before sealing the deal for the March 13 fight. Pacquiao declined the Mayweather’s demand and instead agreed having a blood test 24 days before the match and maybe 30 minutes after. Both parties failed to reach an agreement.

Now that negotiations with Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have failed, everyone is asking who will be Pacquiao’s next opponent. Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight title against Joshua Clottey in Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on March 13. While Mayweather is still negotiating his fight with Shane Mosley and would possible take place on May  in Las Vegas.

There are certain questions floating in my mind. Would Shane Mosley submit to Mayweather’s demand? Is this a scheme to hype up the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight so that they would make more money in the future? Who would win the Mayweather-Mosley fight and if Mayweather loses what then? And would Pacquiao with over Shane Mosley?

For Joshua Clottey, the March 13 bout would be his biggest fight yet. He would also be paid a minimum of $1 million dollars for the first time in his career. Clottey’s last fight was in June last year against Pacquiao’s last opponent Miguel Cotto. He failed to win the welterweight title from Cotto due to split decision and would try his luck again this year against Pacquiao.

So what can we expect from Clottey? He is bigger and taller than Pacquiao. That would be an advantage if he could capitalize those attributes. He has an “Iron Chin” which could take a lot of punishment when a punch to his jaw connects. His defense is hard to penetrate and would make Pacquiao really work hard for his punches to land. But then again, Pacquiao has fought bigger, taller and even stronger opponents.
We will just have to wait on March 13 to see who will conquer who. And we will have to wait and hope that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happens in the future.
