Can Comelec make it on time?

Only a few months to go until the May 2010 Elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) still have a lot of issues to address. Field testing was conducted in 10 polling precincts in Pateros, Taguig, Bakun in Benguet, Naga City, Cebu and Lake Cebu n South Cotabatu.

The initial test in Aguho Elementary School in Pateros failed to transmit information from a pre-marked ballot. After replacing a SIM card, the data from the ballot was transmitted successfully.

Another set of field testing is scheduled in Taguig and Pateros this Friday. The joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Automation and several people from concerned groups would witness the field testing.

Michael Dioneda, Comelec director for Metro Manila announced that Comelec personnel did not encounter any problem during the field testing. Another issue to be address by Comelec is the training of thousands of teachers who would assist in May election. Printing of Ballots and the supply of Automated Polling machine is also a concern.
