How much time do you spend on Facebook?

It is amazing how much time people spend on Facebook. People spend at least a minimum of 30 minutes updating their profiles, posting comments, harvesting their farm on Farmville or doing missions in Mafia wars or Vampire wars. Another amazing thing is that a few years ago, Facebook is virtually non-existence. It is one of those ideas that you wish that you thought first. Before Facebook, there was Friendster, my space and multiply. In less than two years, Facebook managed to surpass the other social networking sites.

My workplace has a decompression room or referred as “decom” to people working here. It has 10 computers that allow access to the internet and popular games like counterstrike of Warcraft. I usually visit the decom on my break but most of the time all seats are taken. Majority of the users are accessing Facebook. Some people, who finished their shift, spend at least another hour updating their Facebook account.

I also used to be addicted to Mafia wars and Vampire wars. I spend a lot of more playing games in Facebook than checking my profiles. In my opinion, the games and the real time chat service that Facebook offers is the reason why Facebook is better than the other Social networking sites.
I read in an article in Manila Times titled “2009: the year of the Twitter and Facebook” that there are at least 350 million Facebook members. Scott Stanzel a former deputy press secretary during George W. Bush’s administration said” if Facebook was a country it would be the fourth most populous nation," It  is said that Facebook tripled their size in 2009. This is big achievement considering that the Friendster used to monopolize the social networking arena.

A lot of people are using Facebook to get their message faster and at a wider audience. Political aspirants are taking advantage of the advertising feature of this site since the laws does not cover campaigning over the internet.
