My thoughts on the Reproductive Health bill in the Philippines

A lot of people are condemning lawmakers who plans to pass this bill. Some call it immoral while some are in favor of this bill being passed. I personally agree that this highly needed to control population. This contradicts the Christian doctrines. The Catholic Church still holds on to the belief of “Go out and multiply”. Population was not a problem centuries ago. I think doctrines should be revised based on what is happening today. The number of unwanted pregnancy in the Philippines is on the rise. The bill does not promote sex but rather promotes available measures to prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease. The bill does not favor nor does it legalize abortion. The main goal of the bill is to disseminate information about contraceptive available in the market as well as educated the youth on the perils of teenage pregnancy through sex education in schools.

The Catholic Church points out the agreeing to bill is like agreeing that premarital sex is acceptable and not a sin. As a Catholic myself, I believe that sex should be save until a person is married. However, the youth nowadays learn about sex through the internet and other means of media very easily. Amateur sex videos or more commonly known as Pinay sex scandals are very rampant. The youth thinks differently compared to generations before them. Information is more accessible than it was 5 or 10 years ago. I think there are more people who engage in premarital sex today compared years ago.
