Divergent is based on a book of the same name written by Veronica Roth. Divergent is the first book in the series. If the movie goes well expect the movie adaptation of the other two books. 

The premise is that in the future, society is separated into five factions. Abnegation is for people who uphold selflessness, Amity meant is for peaceful , Candor is for the honest, Dauntless is for the Brave and Erudite is for the knowledgeable. People undergo a test to determine which factions they belong to.When Beatrice Prior took the aptitude test her results where inconclusive. Her score shows equal aptitude to three factions: Abnegation, Dauntless and Erudite. She was advised to keep her results to her self as it would be dangerous for others to know.
