True Detective Pilot Review

Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mcconaughey are back together in this new HBO series. Detective Rustin "Rust" Cohle (Mcconaughey) and Detective Martin Hart (Harrelson) investigates the ritualistic murder of a prostitute named Dora Kelly Lange. When they found her body, she was tied up, blindfolded, painted with a cryptic symbol and wearing a crown of some sorts. They started their investigation in 1995 and caught the killer the same year. Seventeen years later, the two detectives are being interviewed separately to learn more about the case. Later it is revealed that somebody was killed using the same MO days earlier. They now question how it would be possible for the same person to kill the latest victim if he was already caught in 1995.

On the pilot episode we learn more about Cohle and Hart. Cohle is not connected to the Louisiana Police Department while Hart is still part of the Police force in 2012. The two had a falling out and had not talked to each other in 10 years. Cohle revealed that he used to be married and had a daughter. Her daughter passed away and soon after so did his wife. Hart on the other is a family man with two daughters. He is still married but is having an affair with Lisa Tragnetti.

This episode got me hooked with this series. HBO did a great job in hiring this twactors to work together. What I like with the show is that there are two timelines being told. Story is focused on what happened in between 1995 and 2012. It's more like they are telling of what happened in between. We know so far that the two did not end up well and had not been talking for the past 10 years.

We still have to wait to learn what really happened between the two. I am also waiting for the time when they caught the kller in 1995. This is one of the best premiere that I have seen in a while. The first season is only 8 episode long so we expect that more answers would come in the next 7 episodes.

What are your thoughts?
