JRU Bombers beats Mapua Cardinals

I expected JRU to win against Mapua during their match last Wednesday but also expected that the Cardinals won't go down easily. The game went down the wire and ended with a score of 60 to 54 favoring the bombers. Etame and Hayes were the heroes for JRU who contributed 17 and 8 points respectively. Out of the 17 points scored by Etame, 15 where made during the second half. 10 of which were during the last quarter.

Now the bombers faces a tougher challenge of beating the number 2 seat and defending champion San Sebastian Stags. During the elimination rounds, the Stags defeated the Bombers twice with a score of 79-59 during their first match and 64-59 during the second. The bomber would have to face a rested Stags to gain the right to face the number 1 seat San Beda Red lions. But don't count the bomber out just yet. Anything could happen in basketball and it only takes 1 game to go to the finals.

San Sebastian and JRU faces off today in San Juan Arena at two in the afternoon. The winner of this do-or-die game would face San Beda on October 13. To make things worst for either San Sebastian or JRU, the number one seat San Beda Red Lions enjoy a 1-0 edged against their opponent for completing the 16 games sweep. That means San Beda’s challenger has to win thrice to win the championship while San Beda needs to win only twice. The first game during the finals is very crucial. If San Beda wins that game, they only need to win game 3 on October 15 to take home the crown. Losing that game would somehow even the odds.

·         * Game 4 is set on Oct 19 while Game 5 will be on Oct 21 if necessary. Venues for all the games of the finals is in Araneta Coliseum in Cubao
