Sun Broadband Service state: Trinoma Mall

I recently brought my pocket Wifi when we went to the Medical City clinic last week. So I did the usual test by opening facebook, watching a clip in Youtube and browsing other sites. The Sun broadband did not disappoint.

Please see the screenshot below for the speed test

Sun Broadband Service state: Ever Gotesco Mall Commonwealth

I was in Ever Gotesco Mall the other day and was putting the Sun Broadband to the test. There were 3 users connected. We were all connected to Facebook. One was watching a clip and Youtube and connection was pretty normal. It was raining as well. Most of the time for some reason the broad band connection is somehow slow.

The Alcatel Idol One touch  available by getting postpaid plan 600 with Sun Cellular. Now please note that the Idol release here in the Philippines is just single sim. Many people, myself included thought that it would come in with dual sim. Also the sun cellular release on comes with Slate color back cover.

Here is some things that I've noticed.

Bluetooth - I tried pairing with a Samsung Galaxy phone but it did not work. I am not sure If this holds true only for the Samsung Galaxy Y or all Samsung Phones. Ironically it worked with my Iphone. Normally the Iphone's bluetooth does not recognize other phones except if it is an IOS device.

Battery: It is what you would expect from a smartphone. With consistent use of wifi the battery would last for a day. When I used it watching Movies, I had to to make an extra charge to make through the day. However this what I noticed. I know it is not ideal to use your phone while charging, but Alcatel Idol heats up real fast when I did it. When I was using my Iphone I never experience that problem. Even when I continuously play Candy Crush without charging, it heats up fast.

Touch screen: When I am playing candy crush, and swipe the screen from left to right and vise versa, I encounter some lag or sometimes it does not respond at all. I have to swipe it again to make the move. But other than that it works fine. I am not sure if this is caused by the free screen protector that they provide. There are fingerprint smudges all the time and I have to clean every now and then.

Camera:

Here are some of the sample camera photos that I have taken. I think it is great when i take photos during the day. I still have to test how it fares during night and still have to test the front camera

I'll end it now and provide further updates in the coming weeks since I just got the phone and still testing it out. Please stay tuned. What do you think of the Alcatel One touch Idol

Sun Broadband Service state: UP Ayala Technohub

I brought my laptop in UP Technohub and I am testing the Sun Broadband service. I am downloading files and browsing the internet at the same time. It is quite slow and pretty manageable. It would take a while though to open a site.

I checked the internet speed using speedtest.net. It takes a while to test the internet speed using this site. After five minutes of waiting, I got the results Download speed is at 0.36 Mbps (368.64 kbps) while upload speed 0.21 Mbps (215.04 kbps).  Based on the Sun broadband panel, the current internet speed would around 60 kbps to 200 kbps. The speed is fluctuating and most of the speed based on the Sun broadband panel would be around 50 kbps. I also tried checking using bandwidthplace.com. Download speed is at 268 kbps (33.5 KB/sec transfer rate) while upload speed 186 kbps (23.3 KB sec transfer rate).

In conclusion, the broadband service in UP Ayala Technohub is around 6 (highest is 10). I encountered difficulty in accessing some sites. I received an "Page cannot be displayed" or "No data received" on some sites. I tried watching Julie Ann's cover of superbass  from you tube and it took me two attempts to watch it. During the first attempt I encountered a "No data received error prompt". The second attempt went smoothly. I tried uploading a video in Facebook  (something that I have been trying in San Mateo). I wasn't able to upload it as well

Sun Broadband Service state: Marikina

I am currently in the border of Barangay Banaba San Mateo Rizal and Marikina City. And I am testing out the Sun Broadband Service. I am quite satisfied with the service. I am staying in a friends place and I would have to say that Sun broadband service here is okay!

I reside in Ampid San Mateo Rizal and I have no problem in connecting with the service. The only problem that I have is the speed. Sometimes the connection is slow and would be really fast only from 2 o'clock in the morning until 5'oclock. Since I am a heavy internet user, I need a internet service that is fast.

I wonder if it's Sun's fair use policy that is kicking in that's why I am experiencing slow connection speed sometimes or the fact that Sun was bought by PLDT (who owns Smart Communications). I had bad experiences with the Smart Bro plug it service. So I hope Sun's cellular services doesn't deteriorate

Sun Broadband Service

I have been looking for a good internet provider that would provide me with a fast internet connection and unlimited surfing time. I wanted to try to apply for a DSL service from PLDT but it would be a hassle to submit all the requirements. My old DSL provider unfortunately doesn't offer their internet service in San Mateo. So I was left with the broadband service provided by the three telecommunications company in the Philippines.

I tried Globe tattoo prepaid broadband service. But I was really disappointed with the speed and their connection. I always have to reconnect to the service and it was really slow. Plus they have a so called Fair Use Policy which limits a heavy downloader like me to maximize their internet usage. You see I tried several times to register for their Unlimited Surfing service. But when I reached the 800 Mb limit, I get cut off from my internet usage and have to wait the next day. This is not beneficial to me since I work at nights and I am always too sleepy during the day. Hence I don't maximize the P50 worth of unlimited service. I thought it would be different with their postpaid subscription. Unfortunately they have the same policy for the postpaid subscription. I also tried Smartbro but I always get disconnected. They don't have a Fair Use Policy though.

Now I am using the Sun Cellular Broadband and I am very much satisfied with their service. Not only could I use it for downloading files, it it also doesn't get disconnected. Among the three broadband service provider, Sun is far superior than the two. Maybe it is because of the location. A friend of mine is also using the prepaid Sun service but his connection is quite slow. The connection speed depends on the number of subscribers using the service in a particular area.

So far so good. I'll let you know if I encounter any problems.

Which company provides superior internet service in the Philippines?

It has been years since I have been a loyal subscriber of Bayantel's DSL service. Unfortunately since I had to transfer residence I had to find a new means to connect to the Web. Bayantel would have been fine but they don't have any connection in San Mateo. So I have to choose whether to get a Smart or Sun Broadband service or PLDT mydsl. The problem with PLDT is that I have to submit a lot of documents and it would take time to have it installed.

You might be wondering why I didn't include Globe Tattoo to the list. Well I am currently using the Tattoo's prepaid service but I am very disappointed with the service. This is the reason why. First it is hard find a good connection. And I did find a good connection it wouldn't last that long. I kept on disconnecting and reconnecting all the time. Second, I subscribe to their Supersurf 50 service which would supposedly allow me to access their web for 24 hours. I am a heavy internet user. I download a lot of files so I am looking for a stable connection. Here is where the problem lies. Globe has a certain policy call "Fair Use policy" in which you are only allowed to use 800mb (If I am not mistaken) per day. If you exceeded the quota, then you would have to wait the next day to be able to connect to the web. Most of the time I am able to connect to the web for only  2 hours max.

I have to test the other two Sun and Smart Broadband services. I'll keep you posted on what I find out.
