Movie Review: MIB 3

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their role as agent J and agent K respectively for the third movie in the MIB film series.  Josh Brolin plays the younger version of agent K. Rip Torn does not reprise his Role as Zed and has been replaced by Emma Thompson as agent O.

Agent J has to travel back in time to hunt down Boris the Animal, a surviving member of Boglodite race, and prevent him from killing agent K and changing the future. Agent J meets a younger agent K and but everything does not run smoothly. J has to enlist the help of agent K without telling him the complete truth to prevent complications and changing the future.

In the future the Boglodite was unable to enter earth due to the defense system called the Arcnet. Since Boris killed K back in 1969 the Arcnet system was not installed and Earth was vulnerable from a Boglodite invasion.

Back in 1969, they agents meet Griffin in one of Andy Warhol’s event. In this movie Andy Warhol is an agent for the MIB as well. In the event Boris appears and tried to kill Griffin . In the commotion, Griffin escaped and so does Boris.

Eventually then found Griffin again and he gave them the Arcnet. The Arcnet will be automatically activated when it leaves earth’s atmosphere. Since they don’t have the technology at the time, the only way to activate the Arcnet is to put it on top of the Apollo Rocket before it launches for the moon.

The younger and older Boris worked together to prevent the two agents from deploying the Arcnet. Agent J had to deal with the older Boris. He memorized the attack patterns of Boris and time traveled minutes earlier to prevent the attacks from hitting him. Eventually Boris fell from the scaffolding and was incinerated when the rocket has blast off. Agent K sprayed liquid nitrogen on the younger Boris and shot it leaving it to shatter. Agent K then placed the Arcnet on the top of the rocket and escaped immediately.

He was then congratulated by Colonel James Darell Edwards Jr., head of security of the Space Launch and has given them access when Griffin showed him a glimpse of the future. Then the younger Boris reappeared and killed the Colonel with his spikes. Later a younger agent J appeared. It is revealed that K neuralyzes him to prevent him from getting the trauma.

Agent J goes back to the future and meets K in the diner and showed him his father’s watch and thanks him.

This is way better than the MIB 2 in my opinion. The story was well written and somehow connected some of the dots on why agent K is agent K. It has been 14 years since I watched the first film and I am glad they made this one. It gives as more of a back story about agent K.

There are talks of MIB 4 that would include Will Smith’s son Jaden. It would be interesting to see what the writers would cook up for this installment. When it comes out, I will definitely watch it!
