Almost Human Character: Dorian

Dorian is an outdated android who has been partnered up with John Kennex. He has been decommissioned for years prior to the events of the Pilot episode and was replaced by newer version called MX-43. Unlike the MX-43, Dorian has emotions and sympathizes with urban. They are also equipped with Synthetic Souls.

Dorian has already proven his worth in the field of investigation when he deduced that the wound of the suspect that they are interrogating is self-inflicted. He was also able to function despite having all the MX-43 disabled during the syndicate’s siege on the Police Station.

Dorian is played by Michael Ealy. He was cast in films 2 Fast 2 Furious and Underworld Awakening. He also guest in TV series Flashforward and Californication.

Almost Human Character: John Kennex

John Kennex is the protagonist of the series. He developed a hatred for the MX- 43 (Combat-ready android use by the LAPD) because one refused to help them left during a gunfight that killed Kennex’s friend. After the ambush, Kennex was in a coma for 17 months and was having difficulties recollecting his memories. Kennex is disliked by some or most of the Police officer especially when he became the sole survivor of the ambush. He is forced to be partnered up with an outdated android named Dorian who surprisingly has already saved his life and has gained his trust.

John Kennex is played by Karl Urban. Most of you would remember him as Éomer in the Lord of the rings trilogy or as Doctor Leonard “Bones” Mccoy in the Star Trek Films reboot.Almost Human Character: John Kennex

Almost Human Pilot review

J.H. Wyman and J.J. Abrams have created a new TV series for Fox Television called “Almost human”. Wyman was the writer and show runner of the Sci-fi TV series Fringe.

Set in year 2048 in Los Angeles, Detective John Kennex lost his squad in an ambush leaving him the sole survivor. Kennex was unable to save his friend after a Combat-ready android, MX-43, refused to help them get to safety. Kennex was on a coma for 17 months and was trying to retrieve his memory with the help of a recollectionist. He remembers bits of piece of the memory of the day of the ambush and the face of his ex-girlfriend Anna. He is unsure whether the memories that he retrieve are real or not. Anna mysteriously disappeared when Kennex was on a coma.

Captain Sandra Maldonado, Kennex’s superior has asked him to return for duty. Despite his best efforts to delay his return, Kennex was forced to return after an incident of a hijacking of an armored van was reported. The perpetrators are believed to be the same syndicate that ambush Kennex and his squad.

Upon his return, Kennex was assigned a MX-43 as a partner that immediately questions everything about Kennex. Kennex got fed up and threw the android off a moving vehicle. He seeks the help of Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook) to get a new Android partner. He was assigned an older and outdated version android (DRN) that is capable of having emotions and calls himself Dorian (Michael Ealy). The DRN has something called “Synthetic Soul” as well.
Moments after, the syndicate abducts a Los Angeles Detective Pete Vogel. Kennex tracks down an associate of syndicate and was able to find out the location where Vogel is being held. But it was a setup from the beginning. As soon as Kennex found the detective, a poisonous gas was released killing the Vogel instantly.

Using the recollectionist again, Kennex learned that his ex-girlfriend Anna is part of the syndicate and was the reason why his squad was ambushed. He then got an Idea using Dorian to retrieve memories of Vogel‘s Mx-43. They learned that the syndicate plans to attack the Los Angeles Police Station to retrieve evidence filed by.
Syndicate’s plans were foiled and Kennex was able to able to capture the leader of the group that lead the attack. In the ending moments Kennex started to trust his new partner Dorian.

The Pilot episode reminded me a lot of several sci-fi movies like total recall, terminator and I-robot. Although you couldn’t really call them terminators because the MX-43 are really easy to destroy and even capacitate. The syndicate seems to be ahead in terms of technology. They easily disabled the MX-43 during the police station siege.

All in all it was a great pilot episode. It made me want to watch again after seeing it the first time. It is different from Continuum or Fringe. It seems like they are still using bullets so the technology in terms of firearms is not as advanced. No lasers yet but who knows? I just saw the Pilot. Urban plays that part well but in the pilot episode it seems that Ealy is better in showing emotions.

This is something to look forward to in my opinion. I am just afraid that it might be cut short since most viewers don’t appreciate this type of genre. What are your thoughts?

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 1 Episode 2: 0-8-4

The team goes to Peru to investigate a possible 0-8-4 (a code for objects of unknown origin). The object was created using HYDRA Technology and powered by Tesseract energy. The Peru soldiers appeared and attacked Grant and Melinda. The Peru soldiers are headed by Camilla Reyes, a former colleague of Coulson. Both stand down and worked together to retrieve the device and escape the rebels who were attacking them. Coulson invited Camilla and her team to the plane.

The team is headed to a S.H.I.E.L.D facility to keep the device safe. Camilla however have different plans. She plans to use the device to rule Peru for herself.Camille's team was able to take over the plane. Grant and the others had to set their difference aside to take back the plane. Eventually they were able to succeed but had to blow up a hole in their plane to do it.

Skye receives an encrypted message from another rising tide asking her if she is still committed with the group. She replies that she is still is.Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Director Nick Fury. He scolds Coulson for damaging the brand new plane and warns him about Skye. Coulson is willing to give her a chance to prove herself.

The episode is just okay compared to he pilot. The episode revealed that Skye is a double agent infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. it will be interesting now that she has gained the trust of her team mates. Eventually her secret will come out. It is interesting how it would turn out when it does . The show is still going strong compared to hostages or The blacklist. I can't wait until the next episode. What are your thoughts?

The Blacklist Season 1 Episode 2: The Freelancer

A dangerous assassins known as The Freelancer is out to kill Floriana Campo, a famous advocate on ending human and sex trafficking. The Freelancer disguised his assassinations as accidents. He has blew up planes, derailed trains and even burned down a whole building just to kill a single target Collateral Damage is not an issue for this guy and the FBI doesn't  even know that he existed until Reddington told them.

Red has refused to help further until all his demands are met starting with the Immunity agreement and the security details of his own choice. The Department of Justice Official Diane Fowler refused to have any agreement with Redinggton, Finally the Department of Justice gave in but insisted that CIA agent Meera Malik be added to Red's security detail. In Reddington's part, he choose for his security detail.

Eventually the Freelancer was caught and confessed that it was Red who hired him to kill Campo. It is revealed that Campo is not the great advocate that she is known for. She is doing the opposite of what she claims to do. Red poison her let her die.

Also in this Episode, Elizabeth Keen has decided not to confront her husband about the box that she found.
She pick up him from the hospital after being discharged.

Alright. The Freelancer is a good episode. I am still interested with the show. Elizabeth Keen is starting to grow on me. Here are my thoughts on the episode. I find it weird that the professional assassins easily gave the name of Red when asked who ordered the hit. Not unless it is really Red's intention to let the Authorities know that he ordered the hit. Was the freelancer really guiltyof  being a mass murderer? He doesn't really look smart enough to pull off his assassination. Or was everything just a big Reddington setup to poison Campo? We will just have to wait and see. What are your thougths?

Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Episode 3: For the Triumph of Evil

The Sandman has dropped by in Sleepy Hollow. The Sandman targets people who have turn an blind eye to Justice. Abbie has awoken from a dream about an interrogation involving Ichabod, Captain Irving and a Psychiatrist. It turns out that the  Psychiatrist, Doctor Vega,  is the doctor who treated Abbie's sister Jenny.

The Sandman has targeted Doctor Vega for not revealing what Jenny told her and allowed her to be institutionalized. The next victim is Mr. Gillespe, the person who found Abbie and Jenny in the woods ten years ago. Gillespe also saw the demon that the girls saw but has decided to keep quiet.

Abbie was next on the Sandman's list. Enlisting the help of Mohican Shaman, Abbie and Ichabod was able to go to the dream world to fight the Sandman. After atoning and acknowledging of her sins, they were able to beat the Sandman. Before the episode ended, Jenny escaped the Institution. When also learned the reason why Abbie and Jenny are not in good terms. Abbie has lied about what she saw in the woods 10 years ago. Jenny begged her to tell the truth but Abbie was afraid to tell the whole truth.

No Headless horseman in this episode again. The episode is just okay but it was definitely better the last episode. It seems like it was easy for Ichabod and Abbie to beat the Sandman though. We learn something new about Abbie and Jenny's relationship. It  seems that Jenny knows something about what is happening in Sleepy Hollow. Is she a part of a Witch Coven? Who knows. We will have to wait to know more about Jenny

Am I giving up on this series? For now I'll stick to it. I think I need to watch a few more episodes before deciding.

Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D . Pilot

The show is set after the events of the movie Marvel the avengers. Agent Coulson was killed by Loki in the movie. In the show, they have resurrected Coulson and he was leading a division of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to investigate events that involves individual that has supernatural abilities or have technology that has potential to do harm to the masses.

S.H.I.E.L.D agent Grant ward was in Paris to retrieve a device stolen from Chitauri Alien. After surrendering the device to Maria Hill, he was introduced to Agent Coulson who Ward thought was killed in action. Coulson welcomed Grant to level 7 which was higher than the clearance level that the avengers has.

In addition to the team that Coulson was gathering is Melinda May, a pilot and a weapon expert, who reluctant in going back to the field for combat missions. Leo Fitz is a weapon Technology expert while Jemma Simmons is an expert in human and alien life sciences.

As Coulson and his team were tracking down a hacker group who calls them the “rising tide”, they captured Skye. Later they realized that she was able to beat S.H.I.E.L.D.’s firewall using only a laptop. She is also the link to Mike Peterson, an unregistered human with superhuman abilities that they are tracking.

Later they learned that Peterson has extremis inside his body and is danger of exploding and harming a lot a people. They also learned that he is part of a project centipede that gave him supernatural strength.

They were able to neutralize Peterson by using a tranquilizer with non-lethal bullet that Fitz and Simmons has come up. By the end of the episode, Coulson has offered Skye a position with his team but she was not convinced believing that they don’t have anything new to show her. Coulson use his car “Lola” to change her mind.

I am hooked from the beginning of the episode. It’s like watching a long Avengers movie without the avengers. I just hope that they have a guest star role in the series or the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast crosses over to the Marvel movies. It’s funny and completely different from similar shoes like Heroes and Alphas. Maybe it is because they have a great back story. I am talking about extremis off course which was seen in the Iron Man 3 movie.

Despite it being an action series, the show is easy to watch and not stressful. I can’t wait to see the next episode. What are your thoughts?

Hostages Pilot

FBI Special Agent hostage negotiator Duncan Carlisle has taken hostage the family of Dr. Ellen Sanders. Sanders is chosen to operate on President Paul Kincaid in Maryland College Hospital in Washington. The night before the operation Duncan has held captive Dr. Ellen, her husband Brian and her two children Morgan and Jake. Everyone in the family is keeping secret. Brian has an affair with his assistant Samantha. Morgan is pregnant but has not told her parents. Jake is secretly selling Marijuana.

Duncan seems to be forced to go through with the assassination to help her ill wife Nina Carlisle. Duncan is
conspiring with Presidential chief of staff Quentin Creasy and his father in law Burton Delaney.
By the end of the Episode, Ellen decided to delay the surgery but announcing that an error with medication was made and proceeding with the operation would be fatal for the President.

I find the pilot episode just okay. There are still a lot of questions specifically what is the motivation of a FBI agent to go rogue and conspire to assassinate the President of the United States. According to some of the articles, each of the episode would be through a span of 1 day. The whole season would tell the events that happens on span of two weeks. So if they miraculously go beyond season 1, what Plot would be there to keep audience entertain. When I watched the Pilot a series came to mind Prison Break. In the whole course of the show, they were able to break out of two Prisons. So I ask myself, would it be possible to prolong the hostage situation? Wouldn't they get caught or don't they really care if they did?The premise is simple. To assassinate the President, take the family of the surgeon in charged of the operation. Show how badass and serious the hostage takers are for Ellen to comply but kind of show would it be if there won't be any resistance.

I have to see more episode before decided whether to continue watching this show. What are your thoughts?

The Blacklist Pilot

One of FBI’s most wanted fugitives has surrendered. Raymond “Red” Reddington was trained by the Navy and was being groomed to be an admiral until he left his wife and child and became a broker of deals for Criminals.

He agreed on helping the FBI in capturing an individual who they thought was dead and was preparing a chemical attack on the United States. But he has only one rule. He would only talk to Elizabeth Keen. Keen is a rookie FBI profiler who is just starting her career with the FBI. It is still unknown why Red is so interested in her but the episode has shown that he knows a lot about Keen and has been watching her for quite some time. He has also revealed that he knows about her past starting with her father who is a career criminal and also knows something about her husband. At the end of the episode, Elizabeth found a box hidden in the floor of their kitchen. Inside the box are money, passports and a Gun. Elizabeth confronts Red at the end of the episode regarding his knowledge of his husband’s identity.

When I watched the first episode I was easily hooked. It kinda reminds me of Hannibal Lecter. I think somehow James Spader is channelling him. The idea that Red has a list of criminals that the FBI doesn’t know is quite interesting. Although when I was watching the pilot it kinda reminds me of “The following”. I hope they write a better story line than that show because by the end of the 1st season I found “The following” quite unbelievable and the feat that the cult has achieve was not easy.

Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Episode 2: Blood Moon

Katrina again appears in Ichabod’s dream. Now she warns him that an army will be gathered before the rise of the four horsemen. Katrina also warns that a witch belonging to a dark coven will rise to aid the Demon who controls the headless horseman.

Captain Frank Irving has informed Abbie that the two policemen who saw the headless horseman have changed their statements. Although Irving somehow believes Abbie, he understands that most people are skeptical and won’t believe their story. He tasked them to gather more information on mysterious events happening in Sleepy Hollow.

Andy Dunn is resurrected by the same Demon who killed him. He was tasked to assist in the resurrection of a witch named Serilda of Abadon. Katrina was responsible for weaken Serilda. Serilda was then captured and burned at the stake. Serilda would need to gather her bones and the ashes of descendants of those who have condemned her to death to rise again.

Ichabod told Abbie about her dream and they set out to the Sheriff Station to access Corbin’s files. Unfortunately it was transferred to the Archives and she would need to get Irving’s approval to gain access to it which they could not get since he is unreachable. Ichabod remembered that there were tunnels beneath the Sheriff office that leads to the archives. They broke through a wall to access the tunnel and were able to get to the files.

After obtaining the ashes of the descendant of the people who killed her, she sets off to the tunnels to obtain her bones. She was successful and the she was rid of all of her burned skin. Ichabod use the gun powder stored in the tunnels to blow her up and kill her.

No headless horseman in this episode. It is seems that John Cho might stay longer to reprise his Andy Dunn Character. We also saw a vision of Sheriff Corbin almost giving advice to Abbie. I found the episode lacking and quite boring. It was easy for them to kill off a powerful witch. Although it is interesting how they mix history with fiction, I am not sure that this episode was something to remember. I hope they do a better job in the next episode.

Deputy Paul Randolph was imprisoned for killing Deputy Freddy. Before being locked up Paul managed to get the upper hand and locked Linda instead. Big Jim organized a search party to hunt down Paul. Barbie was reluctant to join has agreed eventually. In the woods, Barbie and Big Jim were held at gunpoint by Paul. Linda shows up and ended up killing Paul.

Alice and Carolyn arrives in Joe’s house and were about to take Norrie. Immediately after, Norrie and Joe touched hands and triggered an epileptic episode with both of them saying the line “The Pink Stars are falling”.

Also in the Episode Julia follows Junior in an abandoned cement plant. Junior explained that he was trying to find a way out of Chester’s Mill. As junior was approaching the barrier with his flashlight, it explodes leaving them in the dark. They had to use matches to find the passage out.

Under the Dome Season 1 episode 2: The Fire

When Barbie woke up he realizes that his dog tag has gone missing. He set out to retrieve it at the Cabin where he killed Peter Shumway. Junior Rennie has followed him believing that he and Angie has a sexual affair. Out of Jealousy Junior confronts Barbie and a fight broke out.

The radio station DJ Phil and radio engineer Dodee has pick up a transmission between the Military groups stationed outside the dome. Julia heard about it and shared the information to townsfolk using the radio. After Duke Perkins’ death, Big Jim and Reverend Coggins plans to destroy the evidence regarding the propane Shipment. Coggins set Duke’s house on fire but miscalculated and got himself trapped inside. The town has cooperated to pass on the buckets of water to stop the fire from spreading further. Jim Rennie runs of unexpectedly but came back with a tractor to bring down the foundation of the house.

One of the town’s deputies, Paul, has gone hysterically and shot a bullet at the dome. Unfortunately the bullet ricocheted and hit another deputy, Freddy killing him instantly. Paul was subdued by Barbie and was arrested soon after.

We learn more about the secrets of the People of Chester’s Mill are keeping and the lengths that they are willing to do to keep it secret. People are starting to become desperate and people are panicking. I expect that more of this panic will manifest in the future episode.  There more questions still yet left unanswered. Hope next episode we will get more answers.

New TV series review: Under the Dome

A mysterious dome appears out of nowhere trapping residents of Chester's Mill  inside. The dome has disrupted Mobile phones and the Internet leaving those trapped unable to contact the outside world. Radio communication is the only means for people in Chester's Mill to communicate inside the dome.

People outside the dome has failed to break through the invisible barrier. As the days passes by people grows more desperate, water and food becomes more scarce and people either try to hold on to or seize the power to lead Chester's Mill. The dome has affected several individuals causing them to have seizures and reciting the lines "Pink stars are falling". We have to watched the show to see how the story unfolds. Having read several books written by Stephen King, I bet the master story will have a lot of twist and surprise before we truly learn the secrets of the dome.
