Manny Pacquiao retains WBO welterweight title against Shane Mosley

Manny Pacquiao has again proven why he is the current pound for pound king. Last May 7, 2011, Pacquiao managed to retain his WBO welterweight title against the challenger and future hall of famer Shane Mosley.

I knew from the start that Pacquiao would win the bout but what I didn't expect that it won't be that boring. Shane Mosley, even though aged, made Mayweather run for his money during their match. Mosley almost did something that no other boxer has ever done which is to knock Mayweather out. But unfortunately he ran out of juice to finish the job. So when it was announced that Pacman and Sugar Shane Mosley would slug it out in the ring, I thought this might be a good match to watch. My expectation was not really high then. I knew that if Mosley hasn't won by the third round, then he won't be able to beat Pacquiao.

The bout was so hyped that I somehow I started to believe that Mosley might have a slight chance. But I ended up disappointed. But off course he is not the first Pacquiao's opponent than I am disappointed at. There is off course Ricky Hatton who was knocked out on the 2nd round and Joshua Clottey who was intent on keeping his reputation for not being knocked out that he forgot to punch back. Even though Clottey last for 12 rounds, I have more respect for Hatton who was not afraid to go all out against the current pound for pound king.

So what are the highlights for the Pacquiao-Mosley match? During the 3rd round, Mosley was caught off guard and took a powerful hit than brought him down to the canvas. He was able to recover but was on defence mode since then. On the 10th round, referee Kenny Bayless, misjudged a push for a knock out. The push has awakened the pound and pound king and was relentless with his combination. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to knock out Mosley.

This is the 3rd consecutive unanimous decision for Pacquaio and makes me wonder if he is losing the power behind his punches. But then again, his last three matches were against Clottey, Margarito and Mosley. Antonio Margarito was the only boxer who wasn't afraid to exchange punches. Maybe if Mosley wasn't knocked out on the third round, he might he punched back more. Maybe then he realized that Pacquiao has what it takes to knock him out.

How to concatenate cells

There are many different ways to concatenate cells. This is really useful especially when combine with index and lookup functions which I will discuss in future posts.

In cell C3 I concatenate cell A1 and B1 which resulted to A1. The same formula as use in c2 and C3
The formula in C1 is =concatenate(A1&B1).

In cell C6 I concatenate cell A6 and B6 and added space in between which resulted to A 1. The same formula as use in c7 and C8
The formula in c6 is =concatenate(A6&” “&B6)

In cell C10 I concatenate cell A10 and B10 and added / in between which resulted to A/1. You could actually add any characters as long as it s between the “ “.

The formula in c10 is =concatenate(A10&”/“&B10)
The formula in c11 is =concatenate(A11&”,“&B11)
The formula in c12 is =concatenate(A12&”:“&B12)

My wife's mother's day surprise

My wife has been sending photos of our child to Pampers Philippines in the hopes that they will choose her to be part of their Mother's day commercial. It has been weeks and we had no response from Pampers Philippines. The last email that we receive from Pampers is a canned message which simply says that the photo entry is valid.

It was around 4pm and we just got back from the supermarket. The TV was tuned into ABS-CBN channel 2. We were home barely 5 minutes when my wife was screaming. I rushed to the living room and she was pointing to TV. It was a Pampers commercial for mother's day and our child was in it. The 4th picture shown in the video was her. We still haven't receive any confirmation from Pampers Philippines . Maybe it's because it is a weekend or maybe they are still trying to reply to all those who send their baby's photos.

Pacquiao Vs, Mosley

It's just a few hours to go before Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley would slug it out to find who is the better fighter. So what's my prediction? Off course I'm rooting for Pacquiao. Why? Because I think that Manny's speed would become a big problem for Mosley especially during the latter rounds. But off course Manny can't relax just yet. He has to be careful. Mosley is known for his strong punches. His match with Mayweather last year is a testament of that. He almost gave Pretty Boy his first defeat but unfortunately he failed to capitalize the opportunity.

Both fighters fought Oscar Dela Joya and Antonio Margarito and won their respective matches. Both fighters also fought Miguel Cotto. But only Pacquiao won his fight against Cotto. Most people think that Mosley is too old (at 39 years of age) to still be competing. And many believe that is the reason why he failed to knock Mayweather out. But yet he could still has a lot of juice in his punches.

The good thing about Shane Mosley is that he is not afraid to slug it out and exchange punches. Pacquiao as we know it love to exchange punches as well. So I expect that this match would be a lot more exciting than Pacquaio's fight with Joshua Clottey. If Pacquiao wins this match, it would be harder for Mayweather to duck Pacquiao's challenge.

Globe Tattoo's Fair use Policy

I have been looking for a suitable replacement for my Bayantel DSL internet services for the last couple of months. I could have retain my old subscription but Bayantel does not have any connection in my new residence in San Mateo Rizal. I have tried Globe tattoo but I was really disappointed with their Prepaid service. Not only do I need to reconnect from time to time but it is really slow especially when I am using it for downloading files. I am fond of opening multiple browser at the same time. Globe Tattoo has proven their service doesn't have what it take to provide internet usage for heavy user like me.

I tried to avail their so called "Unli-Surf" internet subscription. For the price of fifty pesos, I would be able to use their internet service to my heart's content. But wait there is a catch. I could only use up to 800 megabyte per day. So if you have reach that limit you would have to wait the next day to be able to use their service again. I wonder why they even called it "Unli-surf"? Shouldn't it be unlimited surfing? My brother subscribe to their Wi-max service it is also subject to their Fair use policy. I don't know if it is just the location but the connection is way to slow to even consider it a Wi-max connection.

I still have to try Smart and Sun's broadband services. I have heard that sun is superior among the other to telecom companies. But a friend of mind the his Sun Broadband connection is slow. He is currently residing in Mandaluyong. So I still have to test their service before buying subscribing to a broadband service.

Currently I am using my 3g phone to connect to internet. I am currently satisfied since I am just using it to browse the internet. But I can't use it for downloading.

Is it too late to change career path?

I am still adjusting to my new work schedule. You see my work requires me to work nights so that means my social life is really taking a hit. I haven't seen much of my old friends. When I get home I usually spend all of my time sleeping. I haven't had a chance to catch up with my reading. All I do now is sleep, eat and on some rare occasion get a chance to watch the Television.

So I keep asking myself if I made the right decision or took the right career path. My mom wanted me to taking up nursing since she wanted at least one of her children to taking up the same college course that she took and eventually continue to medical school.  To tell you the truth wearing a white lab coat doesn't seem so bad. Though the good thing about my mom is that she didn't really push what she wanted but instead help us make our own decision on which course to take up in college. Besides I am not sure I could keep those scrubs or white medical nursing uniforms  clean especially when it rains. Well good  thing about  scrubs is that they come in different colors. It use to be plain years back. I remember when I was young and my mom use to wear the same colored scrubs over and over again.

But is it too late to change career? My former officemate took up nursing years after she graduated. She was able to finish her second college degree while keeping her old job. I guess it is about time management.

Pursuing higher education

It has been 10 years since I graduated from college. I have been working since and always wanted to pursue my graduate studies. I have always found an excuse in postponing my plans. I use to tell myself that I don't have enough time or don't have the financial capabilities to do so. But this year I have decided to give it a shot.

I have been hearing a lot about the GMAT exam. The exam comprises mostly questions on Mathematics and English.  My math has been rusty since it has been a while since I graduated a decade ago. And I am a bit afraid of failing the math part of the exam. I know that i have to relearn what I studied in school. Since I intend to keep my current job, I was searching for a means to study and work at the same. I found a solution. Online learning. Good thing that the New York gmat prep offers online GMAT lessons. With this preparation, I am confident that I would pass the exam.

The great thing about GMAT preparation course is that although you're talking an online course, you still get toll free phone support. It doesn't cost much and it would allow to me to study in the convenience of my home or my favorite coffee shop. I hope everything turns out well so that I could start my graduate studies.

Which course to take up in College?

My wife's sister is going to start college this coming school year. And she still hasn't made up her mind. When we asked her a few months ago she wanted to take up Psychology. A few weeks later she wanted to take up Computer Science. Just 2 weeks ago she wanted to take up nursing. So we sat her down and talk to her about the Pros and Cons of the course she wanted to take. First she has to think about the employability of the course she wanted to take. She has think a few years ahead. We told her that the demand for graduate of a certain course maybe high now but it might not be in the future. We didn't pressure her.

In the end she decided to take nursing. We wanted her to make the decision for herself and not make it for her. We ask her if that is what she real wants and she told us that one the reasons why she choose it because she likes how a nursing uniform looks like. I ask her if she likes the white nursing uniform or the scrubs. She said she likes the scrubs. I told her that nursing scrubs are way too colorful nowadays. I jokingly told her that she would look like a cartoon wearing those colorful scrubs they are now selling.  Back then most scrubs were colored blue. But she wouldn't change her mind.

She really wanted to take up nursing. And I am glad she made that decision herself. It is funny how much a school uniform weighs in a student's decision making.

Which company provides superior internet service in the Philippines?

It has been years since I have been a loyal subscriber of Bayantel's DSL service. Unfortunately since I had to transfer residence I had to find a new means to connect to the Web. Bayantel would have been fine but they don't have any connection in San Mateo. So I have to choose whether to get a Smart or Sun Broadband service or PLDT mydsl. The problem with PLDT is that I have to submit a lot of documents and it would take time to have it installed.

You might be wondering why I didn't include Globe Tattoo to the list. Well I am currently using the Tattoo's prepaid service but I am very disappointed with the service. This is the reason why. First it is hard find a good connection. And I did find a good connection it wouldn't last that long. I kept on disconnecting and reconnecting all the time. Second, I subscribe to their Supersurf 50 service which would supposedly allow me to access their web for 24 hours. I am a heavy internet user. I download a lot of files so I am looking for a stable connection. Here is where the problem lies. Globe has a certain policy call "Fair Use policy" in which you are only allowed to use 800mb (If I am not mistaken) per day. If you exceeded the quota, then you would have to wait the next day to be able to connect to the web. Most of the time I am able to connect to the web for only  2 hours max.

I have to test the other two Sun and Smart Broadband services. I'll keep you posted on what I find out.
