Pilipinas Gilas loses to Argentina

Who would have thought a few years back that the Philippines would be able to compete in the FIBA Basketball world cup? Everyone thought that it would take the Philippines a few more years to qualify. But they surprise everyone. For the first time in nearly 4 decades, the Philippines would be able to compete against the top basketball teams around the world.

When they qualified last year everyone thought they Philippines would be a push over. But we were proven wrong again. Then number 34 seed Philippines faced the world's number 3 Argentina. Argentina has the advantage in size and experience. We thought it would be blow out. We were proven wrong yet again.

Philippines made sure that they wouldn't go down fighting. The Philippines got a lead as high as 10 points during the first half of the game.In was three beyond the arc for both teams. De Ocampo and Alapag had the most 3 points shot for Gilas. Norwood had a great performance that night. The highlight of his performance for the that game was 2 slam dunk in the face of NBA superstar Luis Escola.

A few seconds left in the game and the score was 83 to 81 in favor of Argentina. Castro tried to tie the game or get the lead with a three point shot. However he failed to release the ball and was call for the traveling. In the end the Philippines fell short. Final score was 85 to 81 favoring Argentina.

Despite not having won any games in the FIBA Basketball world cup this year, I am very impressed with Philippines' performance. Considering it has been nearly 4 decades since the Philippines last qualified they are doing quite well. What I mean is that I was expecting that could not go head to head with bigger teams in FIBA. But it hasn't been a walk in the park for the opposing team. Crotia only won by 3 points, Greece by 12 points and today Philippines lost by 4 points. That something to be proud of. I was honestly expecting Philippines to lose by 20 or more points each game but I am dead wrong.
Next they face Puerto Rico. I hope they do get their 1st win against Puerto rico

NCAA Season 87 is coming!

We are only 9 days away from the opening of the NCAA season 87. I am really excited to see how my Alma Matter, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, would do this year. Admittedly they did not have a good run last year but hopefully this would be a better year for the knights.

San Beda is still the team to beat this year. After completing a historic 18 game sweep last year, it makes you wonder if their roster this year could repeat history.

The policy on foreign nationals playing in the NCAA is still undecided. Some believe that it would be unfair for those schools who do not have foreign players while some think having them lessens the focus on local talent. I think PBA has enough foreign player in the league. I hope NCAA and UAAP create a policy that favors local talents. I read an article about this and one commented that without foreign players, watching NCAA basketball game would be boring. Really? I don't think so. There is a big difference between the PBA and college league. Loyalty. You would be loyal to your Alma Matter no matter what. Whether or not my school has Foreign players or not, I would still support them. When I was still in college (that was 10 years back), they did not have foreign nationals playing in the tournament. And it was really exciting then.

We will just have to see how each school fair this year. I hope i could keep updates on each game on a regular basis.

Heat celebrated way too early in Game 2

The Dallas Mavericks were down big with only 7:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. Dwayne Wade just drained a 3 points shot giving the Heat a 15 point edged. The Mavericks was about return to Dallas loosing the first two games in Miami. And then something happened. It seems like that Wade and the heat were already on celebration mode then. The sleeping Mavericks were awaken and the rest would come down as own of the best comeback win.

Wade, James and the rest of the Heat denied accusation that they have celebrated early. But regardless if they were guilty or not, they stirred something inside of the Mavericks. The Heat missed the last nine shots while the Mavericks scored 9 out of 10 in the remaining minutes of game 2. Dallas has Dirk Nowitzki's layup to thank for their 95-93 victory.

Although I am rooting for the Mavericks, I think Miami is going to win this series. Actually Miami is not a bad team to root for. Back in 2006 when the Heat won the finals, I was rooting for them. I guess I just don't like the idea of Lebron James being part of the Heat. He is a great player but I didn't what he did to Cleveland.

So in the end, will history repeat itself. Will Dallas again fail to win the championship against Miami like what happened in 2006? It is a series of redemption. For Lebron James, he is trying to redeem himself with what he did to Cleveland. Dallas on the other hand is trying to redeem themselves for their Championship lost in 2006 against Miami.

The game ended with a 95-93 end of game score favoring the Mavs. The Series is tied at 1-1. The Mavs will have home court advantage in the next three games.

Lebron James joins Miami Heat

Lebron James announced on Thursday during a live show broadcast over national television that he would be leaving Cleaveland. The two-time MVP would be joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh and would wearing a Miami Jersey next season. James was the top pick during the 2003 NBA draft and has been with the Cavaliers since.

Aside from Miami and Cleveland, the Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and L.A. Clippers were interested in enlisting James. But James Decided to grab the opportunity to play with Wade and Bosh in a bid to win the Championship this coming season. The trio already played together as a team when they won the gold medal for Men's Olympic Basketball during the Beijing Olympics. Lebron's addition to the heat's rooster would make Miami a tough contender in the eastern conference.

Lebron James grew in a town 40 miles from Cleveland called Akron, Ohio. The fans that has supported James since he was a teenager felt betrayed. The once hometown hero is now the Villain. The town in now dismantling a 10 feet Mural of Lebron James that has stood in downtime Cleveland for years. It is an image of James which includes the phrase "We are all witnesses". Several Irate Fans has burn their Lebron James Jersey while some threw rocks at the mural. The prices for Lebron James Merchandise has also gone down since he announced his signing with Miami.

Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has accused Lebron James of not giving his best during the Playoffs in the last two seasons. He stated that James needs to go a team with two superstars to win a championship. Gilbert also said that Cleveland would win a championship before the heat does.

Which team will Lebron James play in?

LeBron James,NBA,Gripe A

Now that the Lebron James’ contract with Cavaliers has just ended, NBA fans are eager to know which team will sign in. The Cleveland Cavaliers are still trying to retain his service off course but fans in Chicago, New Jersey, New York, and Miami are hoping that the reigning MVP would consider signing in their team. Two big names in the NBA who are currently free agents are trying to recruit James. Both Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have committed to Miami Heat and are trying to enlist James. Having James, Wade and Bosh in Miami would strengthen their bid to win the championship this coming season. If in case Miami fails to acquire James, they are looking into the possibility of acquiring Andre Miller of Portland Trail Blazers.

Other Big names in NBA who might be up for grabs is Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming and Michael Reed. Chris Bosh and Dwayne are also on the list. Though both players haven’t officially sign, both players told Lebron James that they committing with Miami. Amare was on the free agent list as well but has agreed to sign a $99.7 million dollar contact with Knicks for five years. The 2011 free agent’s list also has a lot of big names. I miss watching NCAA basketball games

I have been a fan of college basketball since I was still studying. The great thing about college basketball is the school spirit. No matter how good or bad your team is, you definitely have to support it. The Only way you could switch teams is by transferring to a different school. When I was still in college, I was well updated on the team standing of the NCAA. My Alma matter, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, is one of the schools competing in the NCAA. And how I wish that I have time to watch the games live. I haven't watch a live game in years. I would really love to if I find the time.

I didn't even know that the season 86 season of the NCAA has started. I just found out when I was browsing the net. It saddened me when I learn that Letran has lost the first two games. First to San Sebastian (the defending champion) and Jose Rizal University. It is rare for Letran to lose the first game. Well at least that is true when I was still in college. I hope they win this year but it would be hard especially with the crop of Foreign players the other school has.. But then again win or lose, I am still proud to be a Letranite. Arriba Letran!
