Arrow Season 1 Episode 23: Sacrifice

In the previous episode, Oliver confronted Malcolm Merlin and learned that he is the other archer. A fight broke out and Oliver failed to beat Malcolm. The episode started where Oliver is captured by Malcolm. Malcolm tried to explain that reason why he wanted to destroy the glades but Oliver would not accept his explanation. Oliver eventually escapes with the help of Diggle who put a tracking device in Oliver's boot.

Oliver then confronted her mother Moira and told her that she knows about Malcolm's plans. Moira was willing to let the people in the glades die to keep her family safes which Oliver replied that he could not sacrifice countless lives for his name.

Tommy then visited Oliver and told him that he saw him and Laurel kissing. Oliver told Tommy of his father's plan to destroy the glades but would not believe him. Before leaving, he told Oliver that he should have died in that island.

Moira held a press conference about her involvement with the undertaking. She was arrested while Thea went running off to the Glades to save her boyfriend Roy. Malcolm saw the press conference and revealed to Tommy that he is the other Archer. Later the Police came to arrest Malcolm but he was able to kill them easily. Tommy held his father at gunpoint but was able to subdue him easily as well.

Felicity was earlier arrested by Detective Lance with accusation of computer hacking. Just as Felicity was being interrogated, Lance received a call from Oliver detailing Malcolm's plan. She let Felicity go but told her not to leave town. Lance told his superiors about the undertaking that got him a suspension for conspiring with the hood for months.

Felicity was able to pinpoint the location of the device by comparing the Starling City fault line and the underground railway system that hasn't been use in years. With the help of Felicity, Detective Lance located the bomb and was able to disarm it.

Diggle and Oliver went to Merlyn's office and found an unconscious Tommy. Tommy told Oliver that he was right all along and asked if Oliver would kill his father. Oliver simply told Tommy to get to safety. Diggle found the trap door leading to Malcolm hiding place. Malcolm was waiting for both of them and a fight erupted immediately. Malcolm injured Diggle and escaped to the rooftop. Oliver pursued Malcolm and continued fighting. At one point Oliver got the upper hand but the tides turned to Malcolm's advantage. Malcolm was strangling Oliver but using an arrow, he stabbed Malcolm. during this time the bomb was deactivated by Lance. Malcolm told Oliver that there was a second device.

The device took out the east side of the Glades where Laurel's office is located. Laurel got trapped but Tommy was there to rescue her. Tommy was then unable to escape as he was trapped by the debris and was fatally wounded. Oliver came and tried to save Tommy. Tommy apologize and thank Oliver for not killing his father.

Also in this episode. Oliver's flashback in the Island showed that Shado, Slade and Oliver managed to stop Fyers from blowing up a commercial Airline. It also showed Oliver's first kill with an arrow when he shot Fyers in the neck to save Shado who as held on gunpoint.

So what do I think of the season 1 finale? It was great! More than  I expected. Before watching the episode I learned that a character would die. I had my guesses by when I finally watched the episode, I would never guess that it would be Tommy. It is a great thing that they did not follow the Smallville plot where the Clark's best friend turned out to be his mortal enemy.

There are still a lot a question left unanswered. We know that Malcolm is still alive and eventually will learn about Tommy's death. I think he would somehow blame Oliver for his death. Then again he was pretty adamant about killing Moira and Thea when Oliver and him was fighting in the rooftop.

Detective Lance know that Felicity knows the hood's identity, would he arrest her or would he let it slip since she helped him disable the first device? Who knows? We would have to see if the Detective lance would bend the rules for Felicity.

What will happen to Moira now that she has confessed her involvement with the undertaking. Laurel would be a wreck definitely but would she remember Oliver's warning to her in not going to the glades. Would she finally connect the dots of the vigilante's identity?. Roy was still in Glades while Thea was leaving. What happened to them? I always thought that it would be possible for Thea to die during the finale. I guess teenage angst sells in TV shows.

I am glad that they have renewed the show for another season. Guess we have to wait for the season premiere month from now. What did you think of the finale?

Arrow Season 1 Episode 6: Legacies

Oliver was about to go about in tracking Scott Morgan (another name on his father’s list). Morgan cuts the power of those who can’t pay their bills without considering the consequences as long as he gets rich.

Oliver reveals that the name of the hooded Archer, Yao Fei who taught everything that he now knows while being in island. Oliver and Diggle were sparring when a robbery on the news caught Diggle’s attention.

A cop was shot during the robbery and Diggle argued that Oliver should be involved in capturing the robbers. Oliver was reluctant and was focus on the people on his list. Later Diggle tricked Oliver that Morgan was on the hospital but instead it was Stan Washington, the cop who got shot. Oliver was forced to take care of the medical bills. Oliver was angry not because of the hospital bills but it was because Diggle tricked him. Oliver then agreed to hunt the Royal Flush gang.

The robbers are part of a family headed by Derek Reston. Oliver later found out that Derek was an employee of Queen Consolidated and lost his job when Robert Queen closed the Queen Steel Factory and outsourced the work to China in 2007.

Oliver talked to Derek to convince him to stop before it was too late. But Derek decided to honor his Kyle’s (Derek’s eldest son) wishes and do one more job. But everything went wrong and Derek was shot by the security guard.

Also in this episode, Tommy offers to help Laurel set up a fundraiser to help CNRI legal office afloat. At first Laurel did not want his help but Tommy was persistent in proving that he is guy worth dating Laurel .

Warren Christie (plays Cameron Hicks in Alphas) guest stars as Carter Bowen, a neurosurgeon who went to high school with Oliver, Tommy and Laurel. Carter was always being compared to Oliver by Moira when he was younger. The Bowen’s are coming to visit Moira and has asked Oliver to be present. Oliver was late for lunch and had to leave immediately causing her mother to ask him why he ever bother to come back. L

Laurel had to dance with him to make him help their cause in keeping CNRI afloat.  During the
Thea shows jealously when she found out that Tommy plans to date Laurel . Tommy points out that Thea is like a little sister to her which Thea did not take well.

Thea is starting to irritate me somehow. You know in some of the show there is this teenager who thinks she knows what good for her but ends up getting to trouble. She reminds me of Jenny Humphrey from that Gossip Girl Show. I understand that she had to go through hell when she lost Oliver and Robert but grow up already. Although it adds drama to the show I think it is too much sometimes. I hope they don’t plan for Tommy and Thea to date and somehow push Tommy to the Dark side because we all know that Merlyn is Green arrow’s arch enemy. Or maybe the Laurel-Oliver-Tommy will get more complicated which would make Tommy go over the edge. Another theory is that Tommy’s parent or parents are on his list. Well I am just speculating here but who knows.

Arrow Season 1 Episode 5: Damaged

Don’t read if you haven’t watch the episode

Oliver was arrested Detective Lance and was charged with murder. For his defence, he asked or rather Moira asked Sarah to be Oliver’s lawyer. Reluctant at first, Sarah agrees and offers the judge to put a tracking device on Oliver and have him on house arrest. Oliver throws a party to give him an Alibi while he sets his plan in motion. He then calls Diggle and revealed that it was his plan to get caught by the cameras all along. He asked Diggle to wear the hood to stop a German Arms dealer named Leo Mueller from selling high grade weapons to street gangs.

To convince Detective Lance, Oliver offers to have a polygraph test which Sarah advised against. The test stress Oliver more than he expected and started remembering being tortured in the island by Deathstroke when he was captured by unknown armed men looking for the hooded archer.

While the Party was ongoing, Diggle was tracking down the Mueller and stopped the deal while making sure that there are witnesses. An assassin was tasked to kill Oliver since he is suspected to be the hooded vigilante. Detective Lance was just on time to stop the assassin. All charges were dropped after. Oliver then paid Mueller a visit and stopped the deal from going through permanently.

Moira then meets with a member of organization were people on Oliver’s list are part of. Moira told him that she was not happy with the assassination attempt and threatens to revealed their identity if they would harm her family.

During all of this Walter asked Josiah Hudson, head of security of Queen Consolidated, to take the Queen’s Gambit (the yacht that shipwrecked five years ago) to a safer location. Later on Hudson was died mysteriously with a car accident. Walter confronted Moira and when she told him to stop digging deeper, Walter took a business trip to Melbourne Australia and left the house indefinitely.

This is another great episode. The fight scene between the hooded archer and Deathstroke was fantastic. The flashback on island tells us more of how Oliver got the scars and how much he has to go though to survive in the island. I am curious if Deathstroke is dead. Remember in the Pilot, Deathstoke’s mask on the shore while an arrow is holding it up. I can’t wait to see more flashback

Arrow Season 1 Episode 4: An Innocent Man

Don’t read if you haven’t watch the episode
The episode starts with John Diggle, Oliver’s bodyguard, wakes up in an abandoned warehouse that now serves as Oliver’s hideout. After the truth, Oliver asked Diggle to join him in his crusade. Diggle believes that Oliver is just a murderer and what he is doing is against the law. He refused the offer and left the hideout.
After returning home, Oliver saw the news about the execution of Peter Declan, a man who is connected to one of the people on his list Jason Brodeur. Declan’s wife, Camille, used to work for Brodeuer found out that Brodeuer was dumping chemical waste illegally and told his supervisor. A few days later Camille was found dead and Declan was blamed for the murder

r.
Ollie enlisted the help of Sarah Lance’s help to reopen the investigation. With a few days left before the execution, time is running out to get the evidence that they needed to exonerate Declan. Ollie was able to get the evidence given to Camille to her Supervisor and gave it Sarah. Sarah then presented the evidence to a judge but it was not enough to set him free.
Knowing the threat that Sarah posed, Brodeuer starts panicking. His bodyguard suggested that they contact their friends from the prison to kill Sarah and Declan using a prison riot as a camouflage. Oliver learned of Brodeuer’s plans when he confronted him in his office. He was able to save Sarah and made Brodeuer’s bodyguard confess.

Diggle then agrees to help Oliver with his crusade. But he agreed to join because he is more concern in keeping Oliver from going to far off the edge losing his humanity. Later Detective Lance found footage of Oliver changing his clothes and wearing a ski mask during the Deadshot confrontation from the last episode. Lance then arrested Oliver for suspicion of being the Vigilante.

`

Walter Steele was investigating a 2.6 million dollar anomaly in their accounting. With further investigation he found the yacht that Oliver and Dad was in that shipwrecked five years ago in a warehouse bought by the missing 2.6 million dollars.
Not much new comic character shown in this episode but it is still good episode to watch. So many things happened in this episode that it is hard to believe that it all fits in one episode. Arrow is doing a good job so far. I can’t wait to watch the next episode.

Arrow Season 1 Episode 3: Lone Gunmen

Don’t read if you haven’t watch the episode

Oliver plans to cross out another name on his father’s list. He plans to interrogate James Holder, another corrupt millionaire.  Before getting his answer, an assassin named Deadshot shoots down the Holder. Oliver and Deadshot engaged in an arrow vs. bullet shoot out but the later escaped and grazing Oliver with one of his poisoned bullet.

Back in Oliver’s hideout, he realized the bullet was poisoned and started feeling the effects. Oliver runs to his trunk and got a medicine to counter the poison. The Police started an investigation headed by Detective Lance. The police believed that their vigilante is responsible for the murder. But Lance wouldn’t accept the theory that “the hood”, as they refer to the vigilante, change his M.O.
Oliver suspected that his family would be the next target of Deadshot. He seeks the assistance of Detective Lance to keep his family safe. As he predicted Deadshot took the bait. Oliver tracks him down and was able to kill him. But then Diggle was shot while Oliver was trying to stop deadshot. Leaving him no choice, Oliver had to bring him to his hideout and reveal his identity.

Arrow is becoming one of the shows that I look forward to watching every week. Good thing CW did not make the mistake they did portraying Green Arrow in Smallville. They did great in bringing a comic character to life. Although they have been introducing new characters every episode, which is great by the way, they might quickly run out of comic characters to put in the show and end up inventing new ones. Well we just have to wait and see.

How do you like Arrow so far?

Arrow Season 1 Episode 2: Honor thy Father

Next on Oliver's list is Martin Somers, a wealthy businessman who made a deal with the triad to bring drugs to Starling City. With Laurel Lance determine to bring down Somers, the Chinese triad stepped in and assigned an assassin named China white to kill Laurel.

Good thing Oliver was in the house when Laurel got attacked. Another good thing is that Oliver's bodyguard is nearby and was able to shoot two out of three attackers. China White and Diggle started fighting. Diggle was almost killed. Luckily Oliver was able to deflect the assassin's knife using a bread knife Oliver took from the table. Diggle immediately recognizes that Oliver has been hiding his skills being able to throw the knife with deadly accuracy.

Angered by the failed assassination attempt, Oliver donned the hood and went after Somers. He then encounters China but was unable to finish their fight due to the police's arrival. But Oliver was able to record Somers' confession. While escaping, detective Lance was able to hold Oliver at gunpoint. Using his skills again, Oliver was able disarm Detective Lance and provided the confession he got from Somers.

It was a great episode and has caught my interest in watching the future episode of Arrow. I do wish we get to see more of China White as she seems to be a formidable enemy of Green Arrow.

Arrow Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot

After 5 years trapped in an island in the North China Sea, Oliver Queen returns to Starling City to fulfill his Father's dying wish. Oliver has gone missing after their yacht was shipwrecked leading to  death of father Robert Queen and his girlfriend's sister Sarah Lance.

Waiting for his return is his mother Moria Queen, his sister Thea Queen, his best friend Tommy Merlyn and his dad's old CEO and now his stepfather Walter Steele. He then starts his plan to get rid of the people that has been taking advantage of the powerless and the poor. First on his list is Adam Hunt, a corrupt billionaire who has gain his wealth through unlawful means. He first threatens him to transfer 40 millions dollars to an account that he provided. Naturally Adam Hunt refuses to hand over his money. Using a welcome home party that Tommy has thrown for Oliver's return as an alibi, Oliver cross the adjacent building, which is where Adam Hunt is, stormed his base and stole  Adam's money by hacking his account and giving it to Adam's victims.

This is hard enough but what makes his task more difficult is detective Quentin Lance, father of Sarah Lance who blames Oliver for his daughter's death. Oliver now has to be more careful as he juggles with his secret life as a vigilante and being the person that his family wants him to be.

The Pilot was interesting enough to make you want to watch more episodes. It has a feel of Batman begins and somehow a feel of Smallville. Why Batman begins, there are similarities with the way Oliver has gone missing and started his training with how Bruce got his training in the Batman begins movie. It is also similar to Smallville because of the Merlyn-Oliver friendship thing. Eventually Merlyn would be his enemy and he would learn to use the bow and arrow. It might be jealousy that would push Merlyn to hate Oliver. I predict that Laurel Lance would pick Oliver or Oliver might go after Merlyn's father or someone close to him. Well that's just my prediction.

I would give Arrow a few more episode before deciding on continuing watching the series.
