The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 8: Too far gone

The midseason finale of the Walking dead is what fans are expecting. The episode was shocking and pretty disturbing.
In the last episode, Brian or the Governor is pointing a gun at Michonne and Hershel. We all thought he would shoot them but had other things in mind. Instead he captured them with the intention of using them as bargaining chip in exchange for the Prison. The Governor rallies up his people and tells them they could take the prisons if they would want it. He explained his plan using his captives in exchange for the prison. The governor was calm even for him when he was talking to Hershel and Michonne.
The Governor used the tank to fire a shot at prison as a doorbell to grab Rick and the group’s attention. Rick was reluctant to conduct the negotiations on behalf of his group. Rick tried convincing the Governor and the group that they could live together and for a moment I thought the governor would cease his siege and consider Rick’s term. But instead He used Michonne’s Katana to severe Hershel’s head. All hell broke lost and the fighting began.
Lilly and Meghan stayed in camp to avoid the fighting. Meghan was playing with Mud and even made a peanut butter sandwich for Brian. As she was playing, she dug up a sign which says Flash Flood prone area. A zombie literally rose up from the group and bit Meghan. Lilly brought the corpse of Meghan in the Prison. Brian just finished decapitating Hershel’s body when Lilly saw him. Brian took her body and put a bullet in her head. Brian then ordered his group to breach the prison and kill everyone.
They were successful with the breach and Rick’s group was fighting the Governor’s troops and the biters who entered the Prison. Tyreese was pinned down and was being shot at. He was surprisingly saved by Lizzie and Mika. The two kids who Carol taught survival skills.
Rick and the governor were fighting one on one. The governor got the upper hand and was about to strangle Rick to death when a Michonne stab him in the chest and left him to die. Lilly eventually came to Governor and pointed a gun at him. A shot was heard but that doesn’t mean that the governor is dead.
Eventually they were able to kill most of the governor’s men but had to give up the prison. Daryl used a grenade to disable the tank.  Later Mitch was pleading for his life as Daryl was pointing his crossbow at him. Daryl shot him anyway. After the commotion, Rick searches for Carl and Judith. Carl was safe but they found Judith’s crib filled with blood. Rick was devastated but it hit Carl harder. They left the prison immediately.
There were so many shocking events for midseason finale that I don’t know where to begin. Let’s start with Hershel. It’s a pity that he had to die after surviving the outbreak in the prison. Hershel is essential to the group as they are in grave need for a doctor. In the earlier episode Dr. Caleb Subramanian, the only real doctor in the group died because of the outbreak. Hershel’s importance is not only for his medical skills but he is among the few people that Rick listen’s to.
Meghan’s death was somehow expected. For some reason I didn’t think the writers would reward the governor what he truly wants for all the sins that he committed. Nevertheless her death comes as a surprise as well. Another surprising moment in the episode is how the Governor easily shot Meghan in front of her mother Lilly. Lizzie and Mika taking up guns is another surprise. We have seen Carol taught these kids how to survive but it was surprising how easily Lizzie pulled the trigger and killed Alisha and her companion.
I somehow expected Judith’s death. Based on Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel, she died and became a biter as well. I am glad they didn’t make a zombie version of Judith. That would be really disturbing.  Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) show tremendous talent in showing his grief after learning about Judith. But we have to give credit to Chandler Riggs (Carl) for his acting as well. He keeps getting better on what he is doing.
We have to wait and see what happens next and two months of waiting is way too long. Rick and the group are now on the run again. To make things worse they have been separated from each other. We saw how Rick got broken when his wife Lori died in the previous season. Will he go the same path again or would he become strong for Carl. Carl already broken and has lost some part of his humanity might be headed the same path as his father did.
Is Judith really dead or it is just a way for the writers to keep us guessing? Same thing goes with the governor. The shot could have been from someone else. What will happen to Lilly and Tara? Is that the end of the road for them? This season has been great so far and much better than the last season. The walking dead would return on Feb 9, 2014. What do you think of Too Far gone?
