NCAA Season 87 is coming!

We are only 9 days away from the opening of the NCAA season 87. I am really excited to see how my Alma Matter, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, would do this year. Admittedly they did not have a good run last year but hopefully this would be a better year for the knights.

San Beda is still the team to beat this year. After completing a historic 18 game sweep last year, it makes you wonder if their roster this year could repeat history.

The policy on foreign nationals playing in the NCAA is still undecided. Some believe that it would be unfair for those schools who do not have foreign players while some think having them lessens the focus on local talent. I think PBA has enough foreign player in the league. I hope NCAA and UAAP create a policy that favors local talents. I read an article about this and one commented that without foreign players, watching NCAA basketball game would be boring. Really? I don't think so. There is a big difference between the PBA and college league. Loyalty. You would be loyal to your Alma Matter no matter what. Whether or not my school has Foreign players or not, I would still support them. When I was still in college (that was 10 years back), they did not have foreign nationals playing in the tournament. And it was really exciting then.

We will just have to see how each school fair this year. I hope i could keep updates on each game on a regular basis.

Game of Thrones

I am always in a lookout for new TV series to watch. I enjoy watching films and TV series based on a medieval setting like Merlin, Spartacus or Legend of the Seeker. It is a great alternative to the common science fiction like Heroes or Detective type of TV series like CSI.

I am currently watching this series Game of Thrones. And I enjoy watching every single episode. It is based on a book written by George R.R. Martin called A song of fire and Ice.I haven't read the book but I am planning to soon. The Author of the book is satisfied with HBO's adaptation.

A war is coming and it is threatening the peace in the seven kingdom of Westeros. King Robert Baratheon is seeking the help of his friend and the lord of Winterfell, Lord Eddard Stark. Eddard or more commonly known as Ned Stark has reluctantly agree to help King Robert with running the Kingdom as his Hand. Later he discovered secrets that are meant to be hidden. Because of this secrets, Ned's world ha spiraled out of control.

I have just finish watching the first fie episodes and so far so good. I am hooked. This is a great show to watch for those who are waiting for Spartacus: Blood and Sand 2nd season. I will write more about this series when I finish the first season

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

I am a big Harry Potter Novel fan but not much when it comes to the movie adaptations. The first two movies, The sorcerer's stone and Chamber of secrets were the only movie that I felt gave justice to the books. The Goblet of Fire and the Half-blood prince were okay but I felt that they could have done a lot better. The Prisoner of Azkhaban (my favorite book is the worse movie in the whole series) was the worse adaptation while Order of Phoenix was lacking important parts of the story and were mostly boring.

Deathly Hallows is the last book in the Harry Potter series. After Dumbledore's death, Harry was decided to search and destroy the remaining horcruxes. Horcruxes are a part of Voldemort's soul. There are seven in total: 1. Marvolo Gaunt's ring 2. Tom Riddle's Diary 3. Helga Hufflepuff's cup 4. Salazar Slytherin's locket 5. Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem 6. Nagini (the Snake) and 7. Harry Potter (Voldemort accidentally made him a Horcruxes when he tried to kill him. They have to destroy all of them so that Voldemort would loss his immortality.

I found the movie very satisfying. Yes that there are still a lot of details missing from the book but compared to the all of the movies, this has to be the best so far. The thing that like about J.k. Rowling's writing is that you would really feel what the character in the book is feeling. You really can't get emotional with the other movies. A good example is when Sirius Black died in the Order of Phoenix where viewers were not that emotionally affected compared to the book. In Deathly Hallows, it is full of emotions. The movie makers for the this film have finally found the missing element in Harry Potter Movies.

I can't wait to see the next part of deathly hallows. I never thought  could get excited again in waiting for a Harry Potter movie.

A long lost friend

Yesterday a friend of mine from college celebrated his birthday. We haven't talked in years and I was surprised to receive a call from him.  Back then we were inseparable. But now we have our own lives, our own group of social circle and have our own families. I guess it's hard to keep in touch with so many things happening to our respective lives.

He migrated to the States 2 years after we graduated. We lost all form of communication. A few days ago I remember that his birthday is coming. Since I don't have any of his contact details, I had to find a way to search for him. I tried a social network search. I checked Facebook but he didn't have an account. I tried his friendster but it seems to be inactive for quite some time. Then I found a site called Peoplesearch. I was surprised to find an email address associated to his name. I wasn't sure if that was his email address but I just wrote him a mail and gave him my contact details hoping to get a reply. And then Voila! I got a call from him. It's amazing! I never thought that it would be that easy to find a friend that you lost touch with.

White Collar Season 3 Episode 1: On Guard

Con-man turned FBI consultant Neal Caffrey and FBI agent Peter Burke are back with another season of White collar.

By the end of the third season, Neal found out the truth about Kate's Death. It turns out that it's his old boss, Vincent Adler. Neal got his revenge by blowing up Adler's obsession. A German U-boat filled with lost Art work. Neal then receive a cryptic message telling him to visit a certain address. It turns out that it is a warehouse filled with the Art which was on the U-boat. But Peter is not far behind. Right after the submarine exploded, Peter saw a piece of a painting of the Chrysler building that was sitting in Neal's living room.

Peter now suspects Neal of stealing the Art work but he wanted to be sure and didn't want to involve the FBI just yet. Peter's wife, Elizabeth, offered to provide help by calling her old contacts to have the piece of Neal's painting tested. Meanwhile, Mozzie and Neal are busy planning their getaway. Mozzie has acquired an airplane to smuggle the lost art out of the country. There are two problems. First Neal's anklet and second is the piece of Neal's Chrysler building painting.

Upon learning that Peter has a piece of his painting and that Elizabeth intends to authenticate the date when it was painted, Neal cooked up a plan to switch the sample of the painting using paint from the stolen art. With the help of Mozzie and June's grand-daughter, Neal was able to get in to the testing facility and painted a copy of painting using paint from the stolen art.

Lorenzo, a thief looking for a way to smuggle $60,000,000 that he stole from a federal reserve building . Gary (one of Neal's old Aliases) offered to help him. Being on this case requires Neal to take off the anklet which is perfect for their getaway plan.

But things started to fall apart. Peter ordered Jones to follow Neal. He was then caught by Lorenzo's men. Neal was then forced to put their escape plan on hold and use the airplane to save Jones' life. By the end of the episode, the result from Elizabeth's contact shows that the painting is dated back in the 1930s. Peter seem to trust Neal again.

By the end of the episode, Mozzie has suggested that they sell one of the paintings since they have lost all their funds with their last attempt. Peter then got a copy of the list of artwork in the sub. Peter then plans to wait for one of the art work in the list to emerge.

The First Ronald McDonald Commercial... Slightly Restored!

This is the debut of Ronald Mcdonald in television way back in 1963. If you air this commercial today, a lot of kids would somehow develop a fear of clowns. It kind of remind me of the movie "It" by Stephen King released in 1990. This is definitely a creepy commercial.

Heat beat Mavs in Game 3

Lebron James failed to convert on a 3 point attempt. Rebound goes to Dallas with 4 seconds left on the game. The Heat leads by 2 points and it's Dallas' possession. A time out was called after the rebound. Peja Stojakovic is on the floor with Nowitzki. The ball was passed to Nowitzki closely guarded by Udonis Haslim.
Nowitzki failed to tie the game with his fade away shot. Haslim did a great job in guarding Nowitzki during the last possession of the game. The Heat now leads the series with 2 win against Dallas' 1 win. The score by the end of the game is 88 to 86 favoring the Heat

The Heat didn't win easily although they had lead on most part of the game. The late surge of Mavs was not enough to bag the pivotal game 3 win. But this just proves that the Mavericks is not a pushover. They still have a chance to win this if they win the next 2 games in their home court.

Heat celebrated way too early in Game 2

The Dallas Mavericks were down big with only 7:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. Dwayne Wade just drained a 3 points shot giving the Heat a 15 point edged. The Mavericks was about return to Dallas loosing the first two games in Miami. And then something happened. It seems like that Wade and the heat were already on celebration mode then. The sleeping Mavericks were awaken and the rest would come down as own of the best comeback win.

Wade, James and the rest of the Heat denied accusation that they have celebrated early. But regardless if they were guilty or not, they stirred something inside of the Mavericks. The Heat missed the last nine shots while the Mavericks scored 9 out of 10 in the remaining minutes of game 2. Dallas has Dirk Nowitzki's layup to thank for their 95-93 victory.

Although I am rooting for the Mavericks, I think Miami is going to win this series. Actually Miami is not a bad team to root for. Back in 2006 when the Heat won the finals, I was rooting for them. I guess I just don't like the idea of Lebron James being part of the Heat. He is a great player but I didn't what he did to Cleveland.

So in the end, will history repeat itself. Will Dallas again fail to win the championship against Miami like what happened in 2006? It is a series of redemption. For Lebron James, he is trying to redeem himself with what he did to Cleveland. Dallas on the other hand is trying to redeem themselves for their Championship lost in 2006 against Miami.

The game ended with a 95-93 end of game score favoring the Mavs. The Series is tied at 1-1. The Mavs will have home court advantage in the next three games.
