Alphas Cancelled

After two seasons, Alphas has been officially cancelled. The show is based on people with superhuman abilities similar to TV series called Heroes. After the cancellation of Heroes, Alphas was somehow my replacement for a show that features superhuman abilities. I find the Alphas is more believable than heroes. It also shows that there is a limitation and consequences for using excessively using one’s abilities. This is something which I find more believable that the abilities featured in Heroes.

Even though I was not concern about the TV ratings and neither did I checked it weekly, I somehow knew that Alphas was going to end quickly. The stories in the second season were not alluring enough for me to eager to watch for the succeeding episode. It was something that I could put-off watching or to be more exact it was something that I least prioritized in watching.

So what went wrong? The stories were something in I already saw in Heroes. A group of people with superhuman abilities banded together to exact revenge or bring chaos to a society that do not see them as equals? Familiar isn’t it? So here is the real question.  Are sci-fi shows destined to be cancelled prematurely? I have seen quite a few. Firefly, Heroes, Kyle XY, Alphas, Terra Nova, and V are just some of the show’s that I watched which got cancelled without giving fans a proper ending. It seems to be a trend nowadays. Off course there are still some sci-fi series out there. Falling skies is one of them. Fringe has just ended.  So I have to wait for something new.

What seems to be new are series with a Serial Killer theme. First we have Dexter, then the Following, and soon Hannibal Lecter would on the TV screen. Off course there are shows like CSI or Criminal Minds but nothing focus more on serial killers that this three series.

Cancelled TV series part 2

Here is the another set of list of TV series that I was watching but got cancelled

Scrubs Med School
I am an avid fan of the first eight seasons of scrubs. But I have to admit that I saw it coming. The new series was not as good as the first 8 seasons.  Zach Braff plays the central role of John “J.D.” Dorian and the series revolve around his thoughts. It tells his story from being an intern until becoming an Attending physician. It has a stellar cast and jokes were hilarious. But Braff’s departure from the series had a big impact on the ratings. It doesn’t feel like scrubs without JD. Producer tried to make a spin-off were the only a few of the original cast members stayed. Turk, Kelso and Dr. Cox were still in the series but are no enough to fill the void that JD left. The series tried to be funny and out of the only episodes that I enjoyed watching was the one where JD was there. I really think that they shouldn’t have made the spin-off. The first eight seasons were great but the last season did not meet the fan’s expectation

Legend of the seeker
This show is based on a medieval time where Magic was possible. The story revolves around the seeker, Richard Cypher , who was destined to defeat Darken Rahl. Later he found out that Rahl is his older brother and that he is next in line to rule the D'Hara. He was faced with a greater opponent in the last season of the series – keeper of the underworld.  The seeker defeated ral using the power of orden but it unleash a viel to the underworld. In order to seal the rift and defeated the keeper he had to search for stone of tears.  The series was a refreshing alternative to series based on modern times. It is quite similar to the TV series Merlin. Magic plays a big part of the series. There are not much shows nowadays based on the idea of Magic that is why I really enjoyed watching the series.

Cancelled TV series part 1

I am an avid viewer of TV series and have spent sleepless night in front of the Television to catch with the latest shows that I follow. For the last years, several shows that I was watching were cancelled. This is the just a few on my list of cancelled TV series.

Jericho
This is the first show that I watch that was cancelled. But due to decreasing number of viewers, the network decided to cancel it leaving fans like me wondering what will happen next. The series is based on the idea that the several nukes were detonated in United States leaving to the fall of the government. Several companies and US states were fighting over the right to rule the country. Later on the series, it was revealed that bombs were intentional and was plan by certain American individual who plans to take the power for themselves.

Heroes
I enjoyed watching the first two seasons of this series. The series was phenomenal and was watched in different countries. But the ratings were slowly declining as the series progresses. I couldn’t blame it. The storyline for the last two seasons were not as impressive compared to the first two. I guess there were too many characters involve. The last season was based on Claire’s college life and was more like a drama series than a science fiction story. In my opinion, one of reason for the series’ downfall is that it took too long for Peter to gain back his powers. They didn’t have any great purpose or were not trying to prevent a catastrophic event like in the first two seasons. In the last season, the buildup did not meet the expectations of the viewers. I am talking about Samuel. It seems like he was really powerful but in the end he just a pushover. There are still a lot of questions to be answered. Despite the crappy story line in the last season, I think viewers wouldn’t mind watching another season of the series.

Flashforward
Where did this show go wrong? I don’t know why they didn’t renew this series for another season but I think this series is great. In the series, the planet blackout and people saw their future. The series is about unlocking the secrets to the origin and the purpose of the black out. They later on discovered that the blackout was not a first and would not be last. The show was cancelled due declining ratings. I just know why people did patronize this show since it is one of a kind. It has a strong story compared to most shows based on high school or college student’s life. It is intellectual and the type of show that would make you eager to watch the next episode.
