Pacquiao wins against Rios

Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios didn't plan to become Many Pacquiao's punching bag or become his tune up game but that is what happened. Pacquiao is coming from two consecutive defeats with Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez. He plans to redeem himself when he faces off with Brandon Rios. Rios on the other hand is coming from a lost against Mike Alvarado and plan to get this win. The match is set in Cotai Arena Macau.

The match was one-sided with Pacquiao landing 281 out of 781 punches (36%) while Rios Landed 138 out of 502 punches (27%). Winning this match earned Pacquiao the WBO international welterweight belt.Judges score at the end of the bout is 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110 all favoring Manny Pacuqiao.

According to Rios they expected that Pacquiao will be fast but his speed during the match was something their camp didn't expected. Pacquiao’s speed has caused problems for Rios. He was waiting for the chance to give Pacquiao one big punch that could knock him out but unfortunately for Rios the opportunity never came. Rios that Pacquiao did not hurt him but said in a post press conference “But he was quick. I did train for quickness but he was much quicker than my sparring partners.”

Pacquiao improves his record with 55 wins, 5 loss and 2 draws while Brandon Rios' records 31 wins, 2 loss and 1 draw.  Talks has already begun that Pacquiao would return to the ring of April 2014. Currently they have to opponents in mind. He would either fight Ruslan Provodnikov or Timothy Bradley.

Marquez vs. Pacquaio out, Bradley vs. Marquez in?

After months of negotiation between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, it seems that we won't be seeing the two fight it out in the ring this year. Rumor has it that Marquez's asking price for the bout is $20 Million. Negotiations has failed and Marquez is now in talks with another who fighter who has beaten Pacquiao via a controversial split decision, Timothy Bradley.

Aside from Bradley, Marquez is also interested in fighting the interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) light welterweight champion Mike Alvarado. Marquez however is more interested in fighting Bradley since he has the opportunity to win another title in a fifth division.

Marquez won his last match with flying colors as he surprised the whole boxing world with his 6th round knockout against Manny Pacquaio. Bradley has won his last match against Ruslan Provodnikov via unanimous decision.

So who are you betting on? I would go for Marquez who despite his age while compensate with his experience. He is the only fighter who has knock Manny Pacquaio in years. I think a lot of people would agree that Manny was the victor in his match against Bradley. With the amount of damage that Manny has inflicted and the fact that Bradley was on a wheel chair after a post-match interview says a lot. I just don't know what happen with the judges though.

There are rumors circulating that Pacquiao is interested in matching up with Mike Alvarado this coming October in Macau.Who knows. Maybe the winner of each match would face each other next. So I guess we will have to wait if there would be a fifth Pacquaio Marquez match.

Will there be a fifth Pacquiao – Marquez fight?

When Marquez and his camp were interviewed right after the phenomenal 6th round win against Pacquiao last December, they were willing to give the latter a chance to redeem himself and have a fifth bout. Now they are singing a new tune. Marquez and his trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain, would rather fight Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios rather than the Pacquiao.

If you are a Marquez fan, you would say that there is no need to fight Pacquiao for a fifth match. Another fight would give Pacquiao a chance to redeem himself. But on the other hand, Marquez always had Pacquiao’s moves figured out. Pacquiao’s wins against Marquez were not that convincing enough and that is the reason why there was a four match.  If there was a fifth match, Pacquiao would definitely have a hard time putting Marquez to the Canvass.

If you are a Pacquiao fan you would definitely want a rematch. I personally am rooting for Pacquiao. If he would have won last December, I would say that 4 match is enough. But Marquez unquestionable outmatch Pacquiao last December and would want him to get another chance in the ring. Some would say that Pacquiao was on his way on defeating Marquez. I would agree. Marquez’s nose was already bleeding when the 6th round started. If Pacquaio wasn’t careless he would have won. But that is just about it. There are so many “If”. Main point is he got too eager to knock him out. He got too careless. Some would say that it was a lucky shot. I don’t think so. We all know that Marquez is a great counterpuncher. That says it all.

Arum is meeting Marquez to discuss the deal. Off course there would be talks on who will get the bigger purse and where the bout would be held.  They are considering the tax cut if the bout takes place in US and considering other locations such as Mexico , Singapore Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Macau . Tax cut would be around 20 to 39 percent.

Should they really fight again? I think that is up to the fighters. Would anyone still watch it? I think people would still do. Although I would never think that they would watch a fifth match if the fourth match did not go the way they did. Meaning if it went down to a decision, I don’t think anyone, including myself, would want to see another bout. We will have to see if the match would take place on September as Arum plans.

Donaire beats Pacquiao for pound-for-pound ranking

Nonito Donaire Jr. also known as the Filipino Flash has gone up from 6th to 5th place in the Ring Magazine’s Mythical Pound for pound ranking. This is courtesy of his phenomenal 3rd round win over his Mexican opponent Jorge Arce last Dec 15, 2012. Currently he holds the WBO super bantamweight title. He has won his last 30 bouts and has never lost since 2001.

Currently there are four boxers who outrank Donaire in the pound for pound ranking. The unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still on top of the ranking followed by Andre Ward at No.2. Juan Manuel Marquez after winning spectacularly against Manny Pacquiao is in the third place while Sergio Martinez ranks at 4th.

Donaire won the vacant WBO super Bantamweight belt after winning the bout against Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. via Split Decision last February 04, 2012. He then retained the title and won IBF super bantamweight title from Jeffrey Mathebula winning by a unanimous decision last July 07. Last October, he won the vacant title the ring and WBC Diamond super bantamweight title after beating Toshiaki Nishioka. Donaire relinquished IBF Super Bantamweight before the fight. Donaire is only the second Asian to achieve championship title in four divisions. Manny Pacquiao was the first. He is running for the fighter of the year award for performance this year.

Pacquiao on the other hand has dropped to 7th place after losing to Marquez.  Before losing to Marquez he lost to American Timothy Bradley and lost his WBO welterweight belt via controversial Split Decision lost. Hailed as the fighter of the decade years ago, I am sure Manny Pacquiao will be back on his feet. I just wonder if Pacquiao and Donaire will eventually meet in the future. Who will you root for if that match happens?

Is religion to blame for Pacquaio’s loss to Marquez?

In the wake of Manny Pacquiao’s devastating loss to Juan Manuel Marquez, comments have been flooding the net about religion as the reason for Pacquiao’s loss. How did people come up with that? In my opinion, they shouldn’t blame religion for his loss. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Whether he has changed his religion is not the reason for his loss. If you have noticed he was on top of his game. He going head to head with Marquez. He was more aggressive than he used to be. A perfectly timed punch by Marquez was the reason for his defeat. Even Pacquiao has admitted that it was his carelessness that has lead to losing the bout.
Somebody commented (I just can’t remember who it was) that if two Catholics were in the ring, who would win the bout? In a yahoo article that I read, retired Lingayan Archbishop Oscar Cruz has said that even though he is now a born again Christian, he has given up his vices and has given up gambling. I think that counts for something. We should respect his beliefs.
In all of his matches, he wears a rosary under his neck and removes it before the match. In this match and the last bout with Bradley, he was not wearing it. Some people say that it his lucky charm and the change of routine is a reason for his loss as well. For some Athletes, they have a routine or custom to wear something that they perceived as lucky during the game. Maybe lucky charms are true. I wouldn’t know because I don’t have any.
Let’s just be thankful that he is not seriously harmed and that will have the chance to get back to the ring.

Pacquiao loses to Marquez

The 4th match between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao has taken an unexpected turn. It has been the first time that I have seen Manny got knocked out like that. This is the first real lost for Pacquiao in 7 years. In my opinion the Bradley bout doesn't count since Manny was able to give him a beating and most observers would agree that Manny won the match.

The first round was won by Manny in my opinion. The second was Marquez's as he put Pacquiao in the canvass with clean right punch to his cheek. Pacquiao retaliated and was more agressive in the next few rounds. Pacquaio got the upper hand and was able to knocked Marquez after a minute in the 5th round. Marquez was able to shake it off but Pacquaio was relentless with succeeding attacks. At the start of the six, Marquez came out of his corner with a bleeding nose. Pacquaio was still aggresive but got knocked with another right punch which he never recovered from in the sixth round. It took Pacquaio a few minutes to get up. By then It was all over.

Speed was a factor in this match. Maybe Pacquiao has really aged and lost his advantage. One thing is sure. Marquez was more prepared in this match. Some might say that Manny was too reckless. But that seems to be the key if he wish to beat Marquez. When Manny is cautious, Marquez would just patiently wait to counter punch. But when Manny is fighting like a street fighter, it throws Marquez off his guard. It was a good battle plan and it seems like Pacquiao was on his way to beat Marquez. But we all know how good of a counter puncher Marquez is. In the end, Marquez came on top and has given Manny his worst lost in years.

Is it time to throw the towel? From some it is time to retire for Manny? I don't he would besides Pacquiao is still under contract with Bob Arum. Arum would sure that he fight a few more matches before he lets Pacquiao retire. Pacquiao is big time athlete. I don't think he want to remember him as the guy who won it all lost the last two fight, got knocked down and hit the canvass and retire. If you are Pacquiao would you retire? I don't think so.

He might come back stronger on his next fight and prove that he is still someone to fear. Maybe they are just setting up a Pacquaio - Mayweather match. Now that he was defeated by Marquez maybe Mr. Mayweather would have the courage to fight Manny now. But the is pretty big risk getting punch like that just to setup a match. I don't think they expected it to go down like that. I don't think Marquez even did.

Don't get me wrong. I still believe in the Pacman. I am sure he will come back to his winning form and wow us again with his performance. Well done to Marquez. He has proved that he has outmatched Pacquiao in this fight. He is the better fighter in this bout. Some might blame his new found faith. But I don't think people should judge him. He gave it all but made a wrong move. A critical mistake. I actually saw a different Manny Pacquiao in this match compared to his pass few bout. He is more aggressive. I saw the same Pacquiao who fought Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

So if these two will fight again, would you still be willing to watch? I definitely would.

Pacquiao vs Marquez IV

Here we go again. We have seen these two three times already and they are going to meet again this coming December 8, 2012. I really don't understand why they have to fight again. Although everybody knows that Marquez is the toughest assignment that Pacquiao has ever had, it is quite boring watching them again fight.

3 fights is enough. If it is Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao fighting for the 4th time, I wouldn't mind. Cotto is brave enough to go head to head with Pacquiao unlike Marquez who is just waiting to counter punch. Given the right combination Cotto might hae beaten Pacquiao. If Marquez was able to knock the wind and put Paquiao on the floor in the last two matches that they had, then it might be an interesting match.

Both Camps are now claiming that their fighters has never been in a better than they are right now. Both camps are claiming that they will beat their opponents. Heard that before. Get it over with and bring someone new. Mayweather are you up to it? Or are you still waiting for Pacquiao to aged more?

I hope the December 8 match is something different from what we have seen before. Pacquiao has to go for the knockout to convince his critics that he still has it in him. Knock him out and shut him up for good so that we could close this Marquez chapter that has been going longer than expected. We will just have to wait and see.

Who will Pacquiao fight next?

Now that the fight between Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao is over, everyone is eager to know who will the pound for pound king face next. Rumors are circulating that Juan Manuel Marquez is Manny's next opponent.  Everyone off course is hoping that Mayfeather fight Pacquiao but I think that won't happen anytime soon assuming that it will ever happen.

I wonder if Pacquiao would still have a hard time against Marquez if they will fight again. They fought twice. It was a draw in their first match and Pacquiao won the second. But it was not an easy task for Manny since Marquez is a great counter puncher. Manny has won his last 14 match while Marquez is on a 2 bout winning streak. He lost against Mayweather on Sept 19, 2009.

In his last few matches, Pacquiao has faced bigger and stronger opponents. He has a big disadvantage in terms of height and reach but this has not stop Pacquiao from being dominant in the ring. He has fought big names like Oscar De la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley. Pacquiao has definitely improved since Marquez fought him.

Every boxing fan still wants to see the Pacquaio-Mayweather bout. It maybe the most anticipated match in the last few years. But it seems impossible at this moment, Mayweather is contented in retiring for now. But if he decides to fight Pacquiao, it would be a legendary fight.
